Fun Shapes!

One of the challenges on Splitcoast last week was to make cards that were not square or rectangular. I thought it would be fun to do some of these unique-shaped cards for tomorrow's Stamp-a-Stack. While I didn't have time to complete the challenge, I did think about this card by Jill Dunn which has been sitting in my 'favorites--please CASE me' pile for some time now. Since Jill's card was pretty much perfect in my opinion, I ended up making a card that is almost identical! Finding cards that you think are adorable and copying them is a great way to create when you are feeling like your own creativity is lacking! It's days like this when I really LOVE a community like Splitcoast :-) My cupcake needs a few more sprinkles, but other than that I'm happy with it! Here's a link to the template for this card which was created by Linsey Rickett in case you'd like to try one of these cards. If you're coming to the SAS tomorrow, I'll have a template for you.
Paper: Close to Cocoa, DSP is some random paper from Hobby Lobby, base is Confetti Cream
Ink: Colorbox Chalk Ink, Chocolate Chip
Stamps: Birthday Basics by Papertrey Ink
Accessories: Eyelets, Pink Taffeta Ribbon

These 'popsicle' cards seem to be all the rage right now and they really are perfect for summer. To make these cards you need to start with a piece of cardstock measuring 4" x 5". Score it on the 5" side at 2.5" and fold it in half. Then, use your Scallop Circle Punch to make a bite mark on the upper right-hand corner. I had to punch through one side at a time because my punch wouldn't go through both sides at once. Use your Corner Rounder to punch the other three corners. To add your popsicle stick, you can use your Horizontal Slot Punch to make two holes to thread the stick through on the back side of the card. If you do not have a Horizontal Slot Punch, you could probably use glue dots or Mono Multi Adhesive to adhere the stick. I did cut my sticks in half so that they didn't run so far up the card. On the inside of the card, you can cover up the stick by adding a white piece of paper that is 2.25" X 3.75" and punched appropriately. This paper should be adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals or Pop Dots since the stick is rather bulky.

I was inspired by many of the cards I saw in the Splitcoast Gallery when I searched for Popsicle Cards, but these were the ones that really grabbed my attention.

I'm on vacation right now and not taking much time to comment on blogs, but imagine my delight when I saw my name as I was scrolling through my google reader and saw your cupcake card. You did a fabulous job if I do say so myself. :) Thanks for the shout out. Happy stamping!

I love that cupcake (although I despise working with brads). The popsicle is super cute, too. I need to make one of those and some of those bikini cards I keep seeing on Splitcoast.
